The Law of the Garbage Truck

Raj on May 14th, 2008

Very nice story i got from my friend.. Hope you like it.

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood?

Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly one can get back their focus on what’s important.
David J.Pollay explains his story in this way.

Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here’s what happened. I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car’s back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. My taxi
driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!”

And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy you did.

I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me?
And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, “I’m not going to
do it anymore.”

Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. Love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don’t.

Believe that everything happens for a reason.
Never let the garbage truck run over you..

What you think about this story…

Raj on February 20th, 2008

I got his forward mail from my brother… thought to share it with you all……

Lets talk about the moral of this story.
Your personal view please….

The nasty man gave his exwife 3 days time to move out. First day she packed her things. Second day, she had the movers to collect her things. Third day, she sat down for the last time in their beautiful dining room and ate shrimp with a bottle of whisky and a jar of caviar. After eating, she went to each and every room and deposited a few half eaten shrimp shells dipped in caviar into the hollow of the curtain rods. She then cleaned up the kitchen and left.

When her ex husband returned with his new girl friend , all was bliss for the first few days. Then slowly the house began to smell. They tried everything ; cleaning and mopping and airing the place out. Vents were checked for dead rodents carpet were steamed cleaned. Air fresheners were hung everywhere. Nothing worked. People stopped coming over to visit.. repairmen refused to work in the house. maid quit. Finally they could not take the stench any longer and decided to sell the house. None ready to purchase even half the market price. He decided to move out and purchase a new house by taking a huge loan from a bank.

The ex wife called the man and asked how things were going. He told the saga of the rotting house. She listened politely and said that she missed her old home terribly and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for getting the house back….knowing his ex wife had no idea how bad the smell was he agreed to to the price that was about 1/10 th of what the house had been worth …but only if she were to sign the papers that very day. She agreed and the settlement was over.

A week later, the man and his new girl friend stood watching as the packing company pack everything to take to their new home……..

……….including the curtain rods.

A new month with a new mission.

Its since few months, I am chatting with my new friend on Google Talk and today is the day we met and interacted face to face. I am deeply honoured by his thoughts and views about a great mission set in the city of Chennai “Building a Culture of Peace for the Children of the World”, A Culture of peace exhibit Organized by BSG. More information, see http://buildingacultureofpeace.blogspot.com

The Exhibition was started on June 24, 2007, 5 pm to 7.30 pm at ICSR Auditorium, IIT Madras. This was inaugurated by M. S. Swaminathan “a Indian agriculture scientist, the “Father of the Green Revolution” in India.

The Inauguration photos are available @ soka youth

Some of the panals in the Exhibition can be found @ http://cultureofpeaceexhibit.org

Please share view on the topic Building a Culture of Peace for the Children of the World.

In my view :
To change the present problems (war, non-violence etc) in the world is to start it from the children. By negotiation and peace talk we may convince the present world to certain extent but eradicating the war/non-violence is quiet tough in the present generation. Its high time to teach our kids about war,non-violence and create awareness to provide them a BRAVE NEW WORLD; so that tomorrow generation will never see any blood shed or war.

As George Bernard Shaw rightly quoted:
“I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no “brief candle” for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”

Following are some of quotes i have taken from the exhibition.

It is not the violence of a few that scares me.It is the silence of the many. — Martin Luther King, Jr

If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children. – M.K. Gandhi

Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind brought about be a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely an absence of war. It is also a state of mind. – Jawaharlal Nehru

The love of one’s country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border? – Paslo casals

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. – Albert Einstein

Following are some of the snaps shots taken by myself at the exhibition.

ABCD0011

This is very small collection. There are 100s of them.

ABCD0012

See the kids curiosity! Taking notes! May be next peace maker.

If I guess your profession…

Raj on May 7th, 2007

Very funny forward mail i got today…..

Once upon a time there was a shepherd looking after his sheep on the side of a deserted road. Suddenly a brand new Porsche screeches to a halt.

The driver, a man dressed in an Armani suit, Cerutti shoes, Ray-Ban sunglasses, TAG-Heuer wrist-watch, and a Pierre Cardin tie, gets out and asks the Shepherd: If I can tell you how many sheep you have, will you give me one of them?”

The shepherd looks at the young man, and then looks at the large flock of
grazing sheep and replies: “Okay.”

The young man parks the car, connects his laptop to the mobile-fax, enters a NASA Webster, scans the Ground using his GPS, opens a database and 60 Excel tables filled with logarithms and pivot tables, then prints out a 150 page report on his high-tech mini-printer.

He turns to the shepherd and says, “You have exactly 1,586 sheep here.”

The shepherd cheers,”that’s correct, you can have your sheep.”

The young man makes his pick and puts it in the back of his Porsche.

The shepherd looks at him and asks:

“If I guess your profession, will you return my animal to me?”

The young man answers, “Yes, why not”.

The shepherd says, “You are an IT consultant “.

How did you know?” asks the young man.

“Very simple,” answers the shepherd. “First, you came here without being called. Second, you charged me a fee to tell me something I already knew, and third, you don’t understand anything about my business…

Now can I have my DOG back?”

A ray of hope flickers in the sky
A tiny star lights up way up high
All across the land dawns a brand new morn’,
This comes to pass when a child is born.

A silent wish sails the seven seas
The winds of change whisper in the trees
And the walls of doubt crumble tossed and torn,
This comes to pass when a child is born.

It’s all a dream, an illusion now.
It must come true some time soon somehow
All across the land dawns a brand new morn’,
This comes to pass when a child is born.

When a child is born.

Dhoom:2 Back in action

Raj on December 17th, 2006

“He is a perfect thief. I will think we will have fun.” – ACP Jai Dixit

It was a cool and great weekend Saturday… We went to an Accelerating move Dhoom2.
A week back I went to JamesBond Casino Royale. The movie was really good but I couldn’t compromise on the James bond’s character. The movie shows only an action hero. Daniel Craig action and acting was really great but a good spy and spy tactics were missing. Tales of spy must need Spy tools like movies of Sean Connery or improved tools of Pierce Brosnan. Let me brief about this movie later.

Two years after the success of Dhoom! Comes bigger, faster and hi-tech sequel movie Dhoom2! A cops and robber story accelerated with action, thriller and romance., Descending from its previous movie (Dhoom) story of high-speed motorcyclists (riding bikes like the Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa) robbing banks and money-vans, disappearing into thin air. Dhoom- 2 marks a new thief with sophisticated tools and intelligent missionary ideas. Rocking the Dhoom-2 movie with casts of previous continuing actors Abhishek Bachchan,Uday Chopra ,Rimi Sen and additional new comers Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai,Bipasha Basu makes the movie interesting.

Synopsis:
ACP Jai Dixit’s(Abhishek Bachchan) next assignment with his career challenge is to find a international Indian artistic Robber Mr. A (Hrithik Roshan). Jai’s investigation with ACP Sonali Bose (Bipasha Basu) and Inspector Ali Akbar(Uday Chopra) proves, that the thief “a perfect thief” is having a great mission in his life to create/draw his trademark ‘A’ (also first letter of his name) all over the world by robbing in specific places which creates a symbol ‘A’, Jai’s job begins from here with Sonali and a cool comic character Ali Akbar(Uday Chopra), who now becomes a Inspector and STILL searching for his life partner. Cops jumps into the exciting journey of arresting Mr. A. Sudden appearance of Sunehri (Aishwarya Rai) a petty thief who joins as allay for Jai to complete his mission, as per Jai’s plan, in one of the A’s robbery, Sunehri and Mr. A come into contact and she join hands with Mr. A in his next mission and later she becomes his sweetheart.

Ending is not expected as in many cop stories. Check it out. Do post your comments on this movie.

Like Dhoom, Dhoom2 doesn’t have much suspense of finding the robber. All the characters are blended properly with the plot. The robbing technique and intelligence are unique. Dance of Hrithik in the title song is really fabulous. Aishwarya too has performed well but she looks quiet tired in this movie. Abhishek’s dialog delivery are really nice, his action, and body language of cop’s suites him well. But the dance performance is not up to the mark. May be he is quiet fat or no proper training in dance in this movie. Comedy with Ali is funny like the previous movie. Music and directions are superb.

For my foreign friends, here I am posting the title song with lyric from this movie. Very few Hindi words: so you too can sing

Dhoom Again
dhoom again and run away with me
on a rollercoaster ride
dhoom again and see your wildest dreams
slowly come alive
dhoom again and gotta break the rules
and party all the time
dhoom againwe gotta steal the show
you know that ain’t no crime
so steal all that you can
the magic you begun
let’s shout,break out
comes on once againlets hear it
dhoom machaale………

dhoom againand feel the beat of the rythem
rythem of the night
dhoom again and hear the voices calling
creatures of the night
dhoom again and see the shadows dancing
in the pale moonlight
dhoom againa and feel your
heartbeat pumping
now the time is right
so go walk out the door
get down….get on the floor
let’s shout break out
come on once again let’s hear it
dhoom machale

and when love comes your way
you’ll know its here to stay
you’ll steal the chance ‘cose you’re
the thief of hearts yeah
you’ll win with a galance
walk away with your romance
there’s no more ther’s no backing
out now

dhoom again and make the whole world crazy
set your spirit free
dhoom again anf take a break right now
come celeberate with me
dhoom again ‘cos all wanna do
is steal the showsomehow
dhoom again ‘cos all i wanna say
is hey the time is now
let nothing get you down
go out and paint the town
let;s shout break out
come on once again lets hear it
doom machale….

Paul Mauriat – Love Is Blue

Raj on November 12th, 2006

I like to share one of my favorite music of Paul Mauriat; I love almost all of his music. His music are very simple pleasant in nature.

This video is one of his concerts called “Love Is Blue” 1968.

Is really love is blue?

This music is almost similar to a telugu song “Ee Reyi Teeyanidi”

Dedicating this music to this great composer who passed away recently on 3 November 2006 in Perpignan.

Edelweiss – The Plant and The Song

Raj on October 25th, 2006

Edelweiss

Edelweiss
? Sounds different I? I heard this word in a song from a famous movie The sound of Music.

The song really impressed me because of the lyric and the use of classical guitar in that song.

What’s really the word Edelweiss mean?

Edelweiss is a European mountain flower. The Edelweiss came from German edel (meaning noble) and weiß (meaning white). The botanical name for this plant is Leontopodium in Greek called leon (means lion) podion (meaning paw). The flower looks almost like a Lions paw.

The flower’s stalks grow to a size of 3-40 cm. It is found generally at altitudes from 1700 meters to 2700 meters. it is well adapted to climatic extremes. Due to its deep fibrous roots and the felt like covering of its leaves get protection from drought, ravages of winds and the potentially damaging sunshine.

Due to the covering of white hairs on the flower looks woolly white. In the center of the flower it contains 5 to 10 yellow flower heads of size 5cm, with a medium-sized leaflet to form a start structure. It blooms between July and September. It is unequally distributed and prefers rocky limestone places at 2000-2900 m altitude. It is not toxic, but has been used traditionally in folk medicine as a remedy against abdominal and respiratory diseases.

This plant is protected in some countries like Bulgaria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria and Romania.

After the description about the plant… Its time to see and listen the song from the movie The Sound of Music.

The lyric of the song is given below.

Edelweiss, edelweiss, every morning you greet me.
Small and white,
Clean and bright,
You look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow
May you bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, edelweiss, bless my homeland forever

Small and white,

Clean and bright,
You look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow
May you bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, edelweiss, bless my homeland forever

  • During the Second World War, German soldiers occasionally pinned edelweiss flowers to their uniforms. The flower was supposed to be the sign of a “true soldier” in the Wehrmacht as it grows only in rugged terrain, generally above the tree line.
  • In Austria, on St. Valentine’s Day, it is traditional for a man to present a woman with a bunch of edelweiss, the implication being that he has risked his life climbing up to where the flowers grow. In fact, a GM version is grown commercially at lower altitudes.
